There is a cost item that does not appear in any corporate budget, but that every week burns more budgets than many marketing campaigns: the time of people in meetings and webinars that do not produce anything.
We are not talking about an abstract problem of "business culture". We are talking about mathematics: hours paid multiplied by hourly cost, multiplied by number of participants, multiplied by weekly frequency. The result is almost always a figure that, if it appeared on an invoice, would trigger an emergency meeting. Ironically.
In this article we put numbers on the cost of unnecessary meetings, let's see why webinar and internal call fail to produce real results and, above all, how to measure the ROI of your online events with metrics that almost nobody looks at.
And there is a third level: the cost of opportunity. Every hour in an unproductive call is an hour subtracted to work that generates value. For senior roles (those who crowd more meetings of all) this is often the higher cost of the three.
The root is almost always the same: the meeting is convened around a topic ("we talk about the X project") instead of around a result ("we decide between option A and B", "we verify that the team can use the new process"). A topic can fill any amount of time. An outcome, no: either you reach it or you don't reach it. And it's measurable.
This gap, between time spent and real understanding, is the real invisible cost. Because time you see it on the calendar, while the lack of understanding discovers it weeks later: bad processes applied, questions already answers that return, errors that the webinar had to prevent and, in the end... another meeting to explain the same things. The cost is paid twice.
The only way to close the gap is to verify understanding during the event, not after: quiz on key steps, open questions, practical application moments. Not as an exam, but as a diagnostic tool: it tells you in real time whether the message is going through or whether you're talking empty.
Cómo medir ROI webinar
"The webinar went well": well compared to what? In most companies, the success of a webinar is assessed on sensations and on only one metric, participants. That is how to evaluate a marketing campaign by the number of impressions.
The key point is that the return must be defined before the event, not rebuilt after. A webinar without a measurable outcome stated in advance cannot have positive ROI, because it does not have a ROI, point.
La métrica que nadie mira
Participants and average duration of vision: here are the two metrics that everyone looks at. And they don't say anything. A participant "connected for 55 minutes" may have listened to everything or left the card open while responding to emails. The metrics of presence measure bodies, not attention.
Not "how much engagement there was", but where: at what point of the presentation the attention has collapsed, what slides have generated interaction and which have emptied the room. It is the equivalent of the heatmap for a landing page: without, blind optimisation.
The answers to the quiz do not only measure attention: they measure if the content has been understood. A 40% of wrong answers on a key step is a very valuable operational information: it means that that point should be sent back, redesigned or documented better.
The reason why nobody looks at these metrics is simple: traditional platforms do not provide them. They tell you who was there, not who followed or understood. It is exactly the gap on which it is built 2ndStage: the engagement is measured slides for slides, and quizzes and interactions generated by AI on your content become the tool with which understanding occurs in real time, not hopefully.
Cost of time vs result products. Even an approximate estimate changes the conversations: when a recurring meeting from 20,000€/year does not produce traceable results, erasing it stops being a courageous choice and becomes a obvious choice.
Con 2ndStage the slides you already use: the loads, the AI generates quiz, Q&A and interactions in the right points, and during the event you see in real time who follows, what was understood and where you lose attention.

The cost of unnecessary meetings remains invisible only until no one measures it. When you start drawing real attention, verified understanding and product outcomes, each event becomes a conscious choice: either generates measurable value, or free space in calendar.
2ndStage is built exactly for this: turning webinar and call from time to time provided to verifiable results, with interactions generated by AI starting from your slides and analytics showing where you gain and where you lose the attention of your audience.
